the Battle for the Depot

In 1995 the City of Hearne and the Hearne Heritage League butted heads with Southern Pacific Railroad over sale of the Hearne Depot, which was built in 1901 by the Houston & Texas Central RR (SP) and International Great Northern {Missouri Pacific RR} as a union depot for both railroads. Read an article that appeared in The Hearne Democrat weekly newspaper (8/31/95) about the conflict. We’re still here, so you can figure out who won!
Be sure to read the poem by Homer Jones at the end of the article!
